STAR WARS I - The Phantom Menace

On a secret mission involving Queen Amidala of Naboo, two Jedi Knights - Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi Wan Kenobi – become stranded on a small planet called Tatooine. Searching for parts to repair their starship they come across a young boy named Anakin Skywalker. They sense that the Force is unusually strong with Anakin and send a sample of his blood to be tested. The result is amazing, the Force being much stronger in him than they had believed.
Anakin was a slave belonging to a merchant who sold starship parts. The Jedi Knights did not have money so Anakin offered to participate in a pod race so they can buy the parts they needed. Qui-Gon Jinn made a bet with Anakin’s master: if Anakin won the race they’d leave him the prize money and they would get the parts they needed AND Anakin’s freedom and that of his mother and if he lost, he would get their starship. The merchant agreed – excluding Anakin’s mother’s freedom- thinking that there was no way Anakin could win.
Anakin was the only human capable of competing in those ultra-fast pod races, all the other competitors being aliens. Being taught how to use the Force by Qui-Gon Jinn, little Anakin managed to win the race, although his pod had been sabotaged.
Anakin is freed and with the promise that he will return to free his mother he leaves with Qui-Gon and Obi Wan to be trained as a Jedi.
While all this is happening, the planet of Naboo is under siege by the Trade Federation, the reason why Queen Amidala was with the two Jedi Knights. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi meet the Jedi Council to present Anakin to them. The Council senses the power of the Force in Anakin, but also great fear. They take the decision not to train him because he is too old, but Qui-Gon Jinn doesn’t want to give up on the idea that Anakin is the chosen one that would bring balance to the Force. In the end, the Jedi Council allows Qui-Gon Jinn to train Anakin, but advises him to be very careful.
Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi escort Queen Amidala back to Naboo and in an epic battle with a sith apprentice, the brave Qui-Gon Jinn dies. With his last breath he asks Obi Wan to take Anakin as his apprentice.
